About Us
How it all started
ActiveDonor was created with a noble mission in mind. In 2017, Hoosen Agjee, a charity founder from Durban, approached Zahir Mirza, a skilled software developer, to seek help with a common challenge faced by many nonprofits: managing donor databases and tracking donations. In response, ActiveDonor was born - a donor management system aimed at simplifying the process.
Although the initial version of ActiveDonor was basic, we recognized its potential to benefit others. We decided to offer the software for free to a select few local charities, based on their feedback. The overwhelming response we received from these organizations inspired us to embark on a transformational journey.
During the lockdown in 2020, we took the opportunity to completely rewrite the app, incorporating the valuable feedback we had received. Finally, in early 2021, we proudly unveiled ActiveDonor to the public, offering a range of paid plans tailored to meet the diverse needs of nonprofit organizations. The platform quickly gained popularity and now boasts a growing team based in Durban, South Africa.
Today, ActiveDonor is utilized by hundreds of charities each month, collectively saving them thousands of hours of manual work. With its user-friendly interface and comprehensive features, ActiveDonor has become an indispensable tool for nonprofits looking to organize their donor information and streamline their Section 18A tax certificate process.

Meet the founders:
Hoosen Agjee (B.Comm Acc)
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Hoosen has been actively involved in the NPO sector for the past thirty years at both grassroots and management levels. He has a wide range of experience in serving corporate and NPO clients which includes providing services in a spectrum of management, accounting, business strategy & tax planning.
Hoosen has been presenting courses, training sessions and training workshops across South Africa on NPO management and taxation. He has also authored many articles on NPOs, Taxation and published two books on the subject.
Hoosen holds a Bachelors Degree in Commerce from the University of Natal.
Zahir Mirza (BScEng. Hons)
CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER
Zahir is the founder of interactive.io, a specialist Software Engineering consultancy based in Durban, South Africa. He has more than 15 years of experience in the technology sector, performing a number of diverse engineering, business architecture, integration and development roles in bringing to market industrial and large-scale web applications.
Zahir is adept at agile software methodologies, industrial automation and web application development and has undertaken work for a wide range of businesses and industry leaders to build and scale their business-critical applications.
Zahir holds an Honours degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Natal.
